Because I need another fandom like I need another hole in my head ...

First, I have been a fan of due South since the pilot. I have been reading in the fandom for a couple of years now. But I stayed away from writing until now.

Second, I had to write this because I've been hearing parts of this in my head for days now, and it's interfering with the SGA story I'm trying to write. It might also be a trial run for the much longer due South story that is taking up much larger parts of my brain.

Third, this is a somewhat experimental piece. First all dialogue piece I've written. Hope it works.

Title: Made for Walking
Pairing: Fraser/RayK
Rating: G
Summary: Ray has a question

"Fraser?"

"Yes, Ray?"

"I got a question."

"Yes, Ray?"

"It's about the boots."

"The boots?"

"You know, the Mountie boots."

"Ah, the Mountie boots. Their more proper name is Strathcona boots, after the Strathcona Horse, a Canadian unit in the Boer War. They were designed to be both a cavalry boot, and a boot suitable for walking. The design was far superior to both the previous cavalryman's rigid boot and the infantryman's puttee. A thinner sole made it more practicable for walking and the addition of laced gussets, both at the ankle and the calf, made the boot exceptionally comfortable."

"Yeah, yeah, it's those laced things I'm talking about."

"Talking about, Ray?"

"You know, asking about. Like, how do you get those things unlaced? And how come I can never watch you do it?"

"Well, Ray, the removal of Strathcona boots is a closely guarded secret of the RCMP. In fact, one of the last tests to be passed at Depot is the ceremonial unlacing of the boots. Careers have hinged on less, Ray."

"You're not gonna tell me, are ya Frase?"

"No, Ray, sadly, I am not going to tell you. If I did, I would be forced to kill you."

"Okay. Hey, Fraser?"

"Yes, Ray?"

"Can I get a g'night kiss?"

"Yes, Ray."

*expires from the adorableness* Like, seriously. Too, too cute and just funny and neat and just the right length for what it is, I think. It's a lovely little slice of an idea and I think you pulled it off well. The Fraser voice especially sounds good.

I love Fraser being all mysteriously smartass, and you've got him down perfectly here. Great first effort!

Very funny. And I'm going to join in the general appreciation of your Fraser-voice. Looking forward to seeing more from you.
